In the November 13th Town Hall meeting, the planning team is back again with a rundown on current events and topics that can affect your financial planning. As you may expect, the election’s impact was a hot topic for this session.
Mel Brandon starts by looking back at the immediate impact of elections on the market over the last 44 years. Will Meneses covers a subject we often discuss: taxes in retirement. There are some common misconceptions about what taxes and income look like in retirement.
Will touches on the importance of planning to maximize your spending power when taking income in retirement.
Steve Aul wraps up the session by expanding on the impact of the election and taxes. As planners, we take on the important role of providing guidance and helping clients avoid making emotional decisions during chaotic times.

The planning team hosted another great Town Hall session on October 16th. Will Meneses kicks off the meeting by discussing a complex topic: the blockchain. We are often asked about investment opportunities in the cryptocurrency space. Through MarketGuard, we do have options available to our clients. Will covers some of the complexity and risks involved with crypto. It is important to remember this is a highly volatile space that can run counter to the reduced risk many people search for in retirement. If you’re interested in exploring this subject more, just let us know.
Mel Brandon joined in to discuss some of the issues you can face when retiring before 59 1/2. This can be especially true when you have been a union member. The rules around accessing your retirement benefits before that age can be tricky. It is important to make informed decisions when deciding how you access your benefits. Meeting with an adviser that can help you navigate these issues could save you a lot of headaches.
Steve Aul wraps up our session with an overview of the annual Social Security and Medicare updates. Next up is Steve’s favorite subject, taxes. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) of 2017 included significant changes to the tax code. Many of these changes were enacted on a temporary basis and are set to expire at the end of 2025. This is one of the reasons we have spoken about Roth Conversions so often over the past several years. Now is the time to talk if you have been on the fence about conversions.

The planning team hosted another great Town Hall session on October 2nd. October is such an exciting time of year. The nights grow longer, the air feels crisper, and kids young and old can’t stop thinking about their Halloween costumes. As if that’s not enough to get your heart racing, it’s also Financial Planning Month. Mel Brandon kicks off this Town Hall with a dive into the many elements of planning we tackle for our clients to help reduce their stress on this subject.
Will Meneses is up next with an overview of our planning process. When we meet with new people who are considering Aul Financial Group, we start with a review. That review allows us to assess your needs and where your current plan is taking you. From there, we can develop suggestions for any areas that may help you reach your goals or shore up weaknesses in your planning. Will takes us through the steps involved and the many factors we consider when conducting a review.
Steve Aul wraps up our session with an overview of the Market and our current financial conditions. The headwinds we face constantly change, and having a team on your side is important to help navigate these changes. Steve also shared the various events we have coming up this month. We are most excited about the Social Security and Medicare presentation on October 23rd. It is an open event, meaning non-clients are welcome to attend. If you know someone who would benefit from this subject, please forward the information to them.

own Hall is back after a brief break! The planning team loves bringing you regular financial and retirement planning updates with this series. We aim to provide you with ongoing education and current market news that could affect you. In our September 4th session, we learned more about the differences Will Meneses sees between our planning style at Aul Financial Group and his days in the banking industry. Will continues to be a great new addition to the team, and we look forward to what he has to offer our clients in the future.
Mel Brandon wraps up our segment by discussing financial literacy. We love to be a resource for our clients and help them understand their planning questions. That being said, there is still value in maintaining or improving our financial literacy. Understanding financial terms and issues can help you ask better questions when meeting with your financial planner. Click Here to view the article Mel referenced.

Steve and Mel covered some great topics in this episode. Mel kicks us off by discussing long-term care. Statistically, a large percentage of our clients will require at least some long-term care services during their lifetime. The tools we use to help protect our clients from this exposure have evolved. Mel covers how some of these newer tools work and the benefits you could see from using newer “hybrid” products.
Steve’s segment was all about current market conditions. The market is not a fan of uncertainty, and we have seen some of that creep into current conditions. When we experience volatility like we have seen this week, it is important to trust in the plan and not make emotional decisions. The non-emotional, mathematical, and methodical approach that Market Guard takes has been such a great fit for how we approach the planning process.
